Using Twitter for Game info

Ever wanted up to the minute updates on games and gaming news? Never fear! Twitter is here!
(well it's been here but now you'll know who to follow)

There are quite a few people, websites and developers to follow, so I've got a (very) short list of people to follow that will keep you up to date on anything and everything game related.

List:
Cheap gamer  (@videogamedeals) Because I'm a college student and saving money is cool.
Kotaku (@Kotaku) No list about video game news is complete without Kotaku.
Polygon (@Polygon) Pretty much the same as Kotaku, no list is complete without it.
Massively (@massively) Daily news on MMO's news and updates.
IGN (@IGN) Must have, a go to site, for news, cheats updates and guides, if you have a question about a glitch or stuck on a part go here.

Last (not really just the last of my list)

GameTrailers (@GameTrailers) Coverage for all your upcoming game news.

This is a VERY brief overview on who you should be following on Twitter...

It's time to update XP

If you're still running the famous Windows XP (Home or professional) you should seriously consider upgrading to windows 7 or 8.

"But why?"
---Well, Microsoft has announced they are stopping support for the 12 year old operating system.

What does this mean for you? Come April 8th there will be no updates to fix patches from hacks and any other problems.

"But I love XP, I don't want to move to a new version of Windows"
--- Sorry, Microsoft has supported XP longer than any other software company supports a program that I know of and of course they want to make money off of the estimated 400+ million computers still running XP.

"What should I do?"
--- If your computer has the requirements to run Windows 7 then pick up a copy from a university bookstore, it's pretty cheap (~$25) compared to picking it up at your local computer store (~$70-150).
If your computer CAN'T run a newer version of Windows, then do your best to lock it down. By that I mean, unhook it from the internet. If you must be online ditch Internet Explorer in favor of FireFox or Google Chrome. Install all updates that you can from Microsoft up until April 8th. Be safe.

Phone it in Fridays - Watch Dogs and HBO Go

What you need to know Today.

Watch dogs has a confirmed release date of May 27 (PC, PS3, PS4, 360, Xbox One) If you don't know anything about Watch dogs then have a trailer:

There is a ton of hype surrounding this game, and it looks a be a good hacking (computers not people) and shooting open world game. Keep in mind this is rated pegi 18 so it may not be suitable for younger audiences.

*****

The only other thing I cared about this week has to do with SONY, HBO and oddly enough Comcast. This week Sony launched an App called HBO Go for PS3 (coming "soon" for ps4). Interestingly enough this was supposed to be like a Netflix App for people with a HBO subscription. Sounds pretty great right? Due to a bit of bad juju apparently Comcast has decided to be a bit of a thorn in Sony's/HBO's side (to put it mildly). As of now if you have Comcast the App will not work.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Comcast is channeling their inner thug, putting the squeeze on Sony/HBO for a nice piece of the pie.

Phone it in Fridays

"Phone it in Fridays" is going to be a reoccurring feature of this blog, the title is as such because I'm probably going to be playing games as I type it up.

Heh, it beat out "Brutally Honest Wednesday" so it has that going for it.

PlayStation:

What you need to know today is if you have a PS Plus subscription the March free game is (rumored) to be Dead Nation, so if you or someone you know was on the edge about buying it, give it a miss to see if the rumor pans out.

PC:

What you need to know today on the PC side of things is all three of the Crysis games are on sale through Origin for $50. Remember these games were system breakers when released and the game play is still super fun.

There you have it. That's all I care about today. Have fun gaming.

PC gaming just got a major win today, Nvidia has not only raised the bar but has lowered the power requirements on it's newest round of graphics cards. This is great news for gamers on a budget. The new cards run fast and run colder, meaning they can be smaller without the need for large fans. This is such an advantage because usually it takes a long while for the newer cards to make it to laptops and bargain PCs. With this change in efficiency, the card won't consume as much power, leading to a decrease in overall PSU requirements.

This makes your PC more green, you won't spend as much on that electric bill for more processing power. Obviously this is a win all the way around. Gamers have a need for power, and this delivers the power without the extreme cost we've seen in the past, these new chipsets are being offered for anywhere in the ballpark of $100-200. So crazy considering the last round of chipsets clocked in at anywhere from $350-1000 depending on how bleeding edge you had to be.
